Located where the great Missouri reaches the most southern point in its course, Washington, Missouri, characterized by the old world charm of its German heritage, is truly a remarkable place to live and work.

Lured by the writings of Gottfried Duden, in 1833 German immigrants came and resettled in harmony amidst the earlier pioneers.  In the more than 150 years since its founding, Washington's historic minded citizens built a diverse collection of churches, businesses, schools and social and service organizations. It is a city proud to bear the name of the "Father of Our Country."

The Washington Town & Country Fair, held annually during the first week in August, is the premier showcase of the community's cooperation, entertainment and enjoyment.

The Washington Area Chamber of Commerce  provides active leadership  in promoting civic, industrial and commercial advancement of the community.  Located in Franklin County, Washington is the largest shopping area between Jefferson City and St. Louis.
